Freeing terrorists encourages more terror, and on NUMEROUS occassions, these very same terrorists returned to murdering Jews.
In Judaism, the rights of society supercede the rights of the individual. This is why in the Middle Ages, Rabbi Meir of Rotenberg, who was taken prisoner and held for ransom, forbade his congregants to pay up and free him. He died in prison rather than endanger them all in the future.
As important and great as he was, and as much as his flock wanted to free him, he understood this. We must too. |
