Someone should remind these lawmakers how many converts are in Jewish history, including the lineage of the Messaiah (King David`s grandmother, Ruth was a convert), who, if I remember correctly, will one day be planning on arriving in Israel, and will plan on staying...
I agree that only halichic conversions should be accepted, mostly for the reason that the traditional conversion, carried out for 1000s of years, ensure that the convert will accept the commandments, the essential requirement of any convert. Once this takes place, they`re just as Jewish as someone whose mother is Jewish.
If they change this law, they might as well tell the Messaiah when they come, that they`re not welcome... |
