Title: | Laws of return - a problem of magnitude |

When I read this, especially in the light of Miss Gomel`s research, I was reminded by the same thing happening elsewhere.
In the early ninetees several millions of so called Rusland-Deutsche (Russia-Germans) `returned` to Germany (mostly Western part) as a consequence of a German version of law-of-return (which is by the way also applicable to Jewish families whose ancestors lived in Germany).
The problem of this mass-immigration is similar; large groups of people who are culturaly alienated from the society they`re plunged into are confronted with the host state`s inability to tackle the problem. Especially the younger ones feel extra-ignored/alienated and start feeling part of a counter-culture (both in Germany and Israel a sort of self-forged Russianness).
When these laws of return where drafted they were not intended to cope with these magnitudes of immigration. These laws should clearly be rewritten to ensure succesfull integration of those willing to really be there. |
