I know all about the Muslim maltreatment of the Jews and have so written on these Talkbacks, to the great displeasure of the Arabists and other anti-Semites participating.
You will notice that I wrote that Jews living in Muslim lands were "not exactly living in Paradis". Yes, I could have written about the prohibition of Jews riding on horses, about the Damascus massacre of 1847, etc.
But how do these compare to the Crusaders` destruction of the Rhineland Jewish communities and their slaughter of the Jews (and Muslims) of Jerusalem; with the Spanish Inquisition; with the Chmielnicki massacres of 1648; with the blood libels and pogroms; with the Holocaust?
Muhammad`s slaughter of the Quraizi tribe and the various other Muslim persecutions look pale by comparison.
Moreover, I was writing about the Old City of Jerusalem, and not about the consistent neglect of the rest of the Land by Muslim rulers and landowners; and the Jews I was refering to all belonged to the Old Yishuv. |
