what about the huge extnded families of these Arabic speaking muslims? What about the 1000s of others who will surely come to Israel when it is clear that we are giving them citizenship based on the two criteria - that they happen to originate from Darfur (regardless of personal circumstances and the amount of time they have been living in Cairo - where they already have refugee status) and that they illegally entered the State. We are giving them citizenship (as 1.5 million of our own - i.e. 25% of the population - falls below the poverty line) for 2 reasons, and 2 reasons only. 1: we don`t want to look bad 2: we don`t know what to do with them, no third country will take them, and Olmert`s promise about returning them is completely bogus There is no obligation, moral or otherwise, to take even one. They will never absorb into society. Ofcourse some of them have gone through hell, but this is no reason to grant them citizenship. What not Palestinians in Lebanon too? |
