All,
Hamas is desperate and is choosing war with Israel as its only way out.
They are isolated in Gaza and have lost their position as the recognized government of Palestine. The negotiations with Abbas and the presence of Arab governments at Annapolis have undermined their diplomatic positions.
Olmert has wisely refused to negotiate a `hudna` (on the basis that Israel de-recognize itself by negotiating with a party that refuses to accept the 3 international conditions).
An election would lead to a Hamas defeat, the `seige` is not challenged by the Intl community and there is no reason to deal with Hamas before it accepts the 3 conditions.
It is unfortunate that Sderot would have to suffer but Israel has survived barrages during its 60 years of existence without folding.
Keep the response proportionate. Avoid Palestinian civilian casualties. Kill combatants.
I think this can (ultimately) come out with a positive outcome. |
