Canadian prisons have rampant AIDS epidemics, which Corrections Canada refuses to admit or deal with. Rape, assault and untreated drug and alcohol addiction are the norm, as is racism amongst the prison guards, upwards of 60% of Canadian prisons are packed with First Nations prisoners.
Estimates from CorCan, the marketing arm of Corrections Canada (which uses prison labour to produce office furniture and other products) that as much as 40% of the prison population is innocent of the crimes for which they were incarcerated, however this does not stop them from inserting these people into a system which dehumanizes them and refuses to treat the main causes of imprisonment in Canada in the first place: substance abuse and lack of education.
Prison guards smuggle contraband to the inmates at exorbitant profits, SuperMax prisons are dehumanizing prisons for profit, the Provincial jails are overcrowded, filthy and staffed by white supremest guards.
