Humane collective punishment is not so easily condemned when the population that is being punished has chosen to popularly elect a government that is making war on a sovereign state. Is it possible that acts of war against a sovereign state will occur without a response? Who can possibly believe such nonsense?
The government of no sovereign state can maintain its legitimacy if it turns a blind eye to aggression upon its citizenry. Certainly the cynical Mashal and the Hamas establishment understand this.
Therefore their continued suport of rocketry against Israeli towns can only be understood as a political action initiated (again and again) with the hope that the anticipated Israeli response will draw in all of the Arab countries to their diplomatic defense. But perhaps the Arabs are not so stupid, because what is sauce for the goose may be sauce for the gander.
Either it is to be expected that a sovereign state, and member of the United Nations, will defend itself or not. |
