By my reading of things, Mazuz said that rather than criminal proceedings, the officers should be held accountable using disciplinary procedures. That may be justifiable if you believe that people should not spend life in prison for a mistake in a high pressure job. But it puts the onus on the authorities to discipline the officers. I would like to see Mazuz/the government make sure that the police officers are disciplined for their error of judgement. Let us remember that in a parallel case in London, police officers are not being tried for murder for the killing of a Brazilian tourist at a time of high pressure. |
