In this case, it may just be that independence and freedom is an appropriate answer, along with consideration of a federalist type of Palestinian system. Of course this would require that Abbas and Haniya speak and that Israel still be willing to speak with Abbas afterwards.
While the Palestinians in Gaza and in the West Bank have common interests, their interests do diverge at times. Running local matters from a disconnected capitol is difficult at the best of times and those circumstances do not exist in the Palestinian territories. |
