In the Agranat Commission`s report in 1974, Chief of Staff David Elazar, Chief of Intelligence Eli Zeira and his deputy, Aryeh Shalev were all recommended for dismissal. Shmuel Gonen, commander of the Southern front was forced to leave the army. PM Golda Meir and DM Moshe Dyan, the two people more responsible than anyone in the country for the failures of the war were implicated but not held responsible. The difference between Olmert and Meir is that while Meir had a conscience and resigned from office a month after the report, Olmert feels no remorse and will pull millions to the grave before he forfeits his power. In 2008 most Israelis, more worried about who will be the next "Kochav Nolad" (Israel`s equivalent of American Idol) and are too tired and / or too ignorant to tell the difference between a light at the end of the tunnel and a fast approaching train.
