| No haredi rabbis want control of Israel because they understand they cannot implement a "Tora" modern society and survive. Will we again have slavery (Eved Ivri) for unpaid debts? Who will police and secure us? It will be the end of all modern culture (no budgets for theatre, film, art, etc.). Will we implement the laws of a rapist being forced to marry his victim? Will we execute gays? We will implement capital punishment for shabat violations? etc. etc. They cannot deal with the reality of such a responsibility and must fall back on "the time of the Moshiach" to cover them. For now it is very convenient to have a blocking minority in a western democracy (more or less) and control large budgets, funded bloated rabbinical beauracracies and the marraige and divorce of our jewish citizens (making life miserable for most). |
