First, Arabs are not allowed to buy land that is "deemed for Jews" which is actually only a small percentage of Israeli lands. So, take the case of that town in Wadi Ara or Iron where an Arab family was not permitted to buy land because it was JNF land. The same family can buy land in Tel Aviv or Hadera but then the second issue comes into play- will they be accepted and feel comfortable, will the seller try to dissuade them from buying, will their children be comfortable in the schools, etc. Part of it is wanting to remain with their own people (both Arabs and Jews) and part is that we have a very racist country where we assume all Arabs are going to be terrorists.
In theory, you are right. But the majority of us don`t try to create a more egalitarian system because of the conflict. |
