There were hardline Palestinian groups well before there was even a scent of Israel. The "Grand" Mufti of Jerusalem organized the Arab brigade to assist Hitler in the final solution. That is pretty hard line.
Having said that, generally I support talking to enemies. But I can certainly understand the leaders of Israel being very reluctant. The group is sworn to destruction of Israel, actively perpetrates violence against civilians and brain washes children in their society to hate. Hamas has always taken quiet afforded by Israel to build up its arsenal. So, tell me where there is advantage in talking? I suppose one can talk and continue the war unless and until their are indications that there is something in talking for Israel and its civilians. Hope and pursue peace but conduct war with those warring against you.
p.s. Israel would, of course, need to talk not to the intermediaries, Hamas, but the terror groups and Nations that pull their strings. That`s another complication. |
