| From 1943 to 1945 the Allied powers (US, England, Canada) bombed and firebombed hundreds and thousands of German civilians into their graves. It was there decided once and for all that civilians were considered fair game in war. In 1861 the North thought the war would be over after a few battles and an honourable surrender by the south. In the 1865 campaign, Sherman and Grant brought fire, sword and death to the southern states to bring the conflict to and end. That`s how wars are won: cold, brutal application of overwhelming force. Anything short of such measures will only ever draw out the pain. |
