When my brother started as a auxiliary deputy sheriff in Dade County, Florida in the 1970s, my first advice to him was to "get a throw-down."
A `throw-down` being an unregistered or stolen handgun which could be `thrown down" to justify the accidental shooting of a civilian.
My starry-eyed and gullible brother said "they don`t do that."
Soon after he started work, his first partner "sarge" advised him "get a throw-down."
I realize I must sound very cynical, but then I have survived for almost 6 decades and seen more than I wish of mankind. |
