One does not have to look far to see how throughout most of Christian history, the Church observed its own commandments more in the breech than the observances. One can argue well, it was the period of time in history and everybody was doing it and it was just part of feudal or imperial life. So much for the spirit of religion triumphing over the power of the realm. Chriatians and muslims had great political power and so, it was they who were usually in cpompetition and having a go at each other, all in the name of God, of course. And the powerless Jews of course were caught in the middle, often hit from both sides and when left alone, were usually exploited in one way or another, with security to the community never lasting for very long before this or that expulsion or forced conversion by some diehards. Jews reacted by attacking with the word. Its all they had. So we have seen all 3 of the religions regard each other with great contempt and hate, in word and deed.
