By Anshel Pfeffer, Haaretz Correspondent: Genealogy Web site attempts to map out entire Jewish people

Title:Er, problem... the Iraqis, Yemenites, et al

There`s a big problem with this. I only know my family tree to my great-great-grandparents through oral tradition only because written records do not exist. This will be true of nearly all the Jews who originated in the Middle East as well as the Ethopians.
Furthermore, when my grandparents fled Iraq and came to Israel their names were changed from Arabic to Hebrew sounding names and I doubt the Misrad Ha`Klita bothered to keep a record of what their names were previously.
Very few Iraqis have written records from the time their grandparents and great grandparents lived in Iraq. Yemenites and Morrocans have none.
This is again another Ashkenazi attempt to "own" Judaism because it will be impossible to map the entire family tree of the Jewish people with incomplete records. The only way to do taht would be to take every single Jews DNA and I`d rather not be on an information database that way.
