| I am very apprehensive about such a site. For 25 years I have been sending out copies of trees to our (my wire and my) families. About 2 years ago, a cousin , using my tree, connected the branch to a similiar operation called Genie. We now have over 9,000 on this tree most of whom have no actual relationship to us. Our cousin also attached me to her tree (I`m not on the branch I sent her, so that I can have access to adding to the tree. There may be a way to get me off that particular spot but as of now I can`t find it. Information passed to families should not always be made available to others. Family trees to be real need continual correction. These connected trees must be correctable. People who don`t want to be on, also have to be able to exclude themselves. The data also has to be carefully controlle ajnd monitered not only for truth but for appropriateness. There is an ethichs of Jewish Genealogy that ios lost in these huge public family trees. |
