Yuval Azoulay, Haaretz Correspondent: IDF begins collecting weapons from West Bank settlements

Title:#7 - Junta?
Name:JES
City: State: Israel
Johnboy, you should probably look up the meaning of the word "junta" before using it. The Israeli government is not a "junta" by any accepted definition of the term.
You might also want to check your population statistics. Perhaps the characterization of "the presence of half a million Israeli colonists deep, deep inside Palestinian land" is just a tad exaggerated? There are just over a quarter of a million settlers in the West Bank, and the majority of these are not "deep, deep" inside Palestinian land. In fact a large proportion are living adjacent to the green line. Another 200,000 Israelis are living in communities that are, for the most part, either in areas that had been ethnically cleansed in 1948, or on territory that had been no man`s land following the armistice of 1949. By and large, I don`t think that one could describe these people as "messianic, armed-to-the-teeth religious whackos ". But then, as with many other issues on which you speak with great authority, I doubt that you`ve ever met one or, for that matter, seen any of these communities.
