It was not the pullout itself that was at fault, but the unilateral way that it was implemented, and the subsequent inevitable aftermath. We left scorched-earth behind us, there was a dispute with the World Bank about who was to invest the millions just for clearing the rubble of the settler-demolished homes, so that Gazans could set up normal productive lives there. Was this clearing operation ever activated?! We pulled out in disarray, and left disarray behind us. This should serve as a vital lesson for all future pullouts. Hamas was far from its peak at the time, the disarry and neglect contributed to its ascendancy...
