| There are a number of ways in which Jews try to put a face upon Israeli occupation. Some are sophisticated and some are quite basic. The problem is to take a policy which is ugly on the face of it, a policy fueled by greed, racism, and violent disregard for human rights, and make this policy seem natural and benign. Something desirable with no real negative aspects except as regards a few criminal terrorists. To bring this problem up to date, we find some contributing factors which add to the difficulty. First, the advent of the internet and instant world wide news has given people an easy alternative to bypass the channels once so well controlled by Israel. Second, Israel has lost much credibility, and people have come to view Israels pronouncements as inaccurate and self serving. Finally, Israels disregard of world opinion has further reduced any sympathy which Israel might have otherwise received. Selling the occupation, using either the soft sell or the hard sell will fail. |
