We like Abdullah. He`s western educated. He speaks well. He has a cute wife but, let`s be realistic, who elected him king?
This fellow, as nice and reasonable as he may be, has as little legitimacy as a leader as do all of the other un-elected dictators in the Arab world.
That having been said, Abdullah ought to be careful with President Carter because it was Carter who, in 1979, was primarily responsible for the abdication of the Shah of Iran, a man with similar attributes and legitimacy. The result: the Islamic Republic of Iran. Thank you Jimmy Carter (worst president we ever had). |
