Mike, blaming Carter for the Islamic Republic of Iran fails to acknowledge the U.S. backed intervention in Iran in 1953, in which the CIA overthrew Mossadegh, the democratic Prime Minister of Iran, courtesy of Kermit Roosevelt. The Shah was reinstated with U.S. backing against the will of the Iranian people after the coup. The Islamic Revolution in 1979 was a reflection of their dissatisfaction with the Shah and Western intervention in their country, something that had been building since `53. Had the U.S. stayed out of Iran`s business in `53, there may not be an Islamic Republic today. You`re simply scapegoating Carter for the overall failure and lack of wisdom in regards to American foreign policy in the Middle East that extends way before Carter`s presidency.
