| DLB: "UN242 describes Israeli withdrawal `to secure and recognized borders free from threats and acts of force`. " No, it describes nothing of the sort. It says that there are 2 principles required for a lasting peace: 1) "Withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict" and 2) "Termination of all claims or states of belligerency and respect for and acknowledgement of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every State in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force" The issue of withdrawal is therefore carefully decoupled from the issue of where everyone`s (not just Israel`s, I`ll point out) "secure and recognized boundaries" should be. They are two separate issues i.e. you can achieve either one without the other, but you need to achieve both before the UNSC will agree that there is now peace in the region. |
