| Peace is, of course, desired amongst intelligent, free-thinking individuals. But among many of us, our sense of freedom is stronger. Would the Jews have accepted peace - and dhimmitude - in a palestinian state, much like Jews in other Arab countries? Or would they be willing to fight for freedom? The last 60 years have proved the latter. Does anyone recall the violence that preceeded the notion of an independent Israel? Magnes, as well- intentioned as he was (and his love for Israel was unquestioned) could not see that violence and war against the Jews was unavoidable in any situation. The Jews had a choice: Fight as an independent nation, or be as prostrate as they were with Hitler. |
