| Actually the numbers are rather contradicting, aren`t they....???? 53 % of Germans feel no responsibility towards Israel, but 58 % wanna come to her help, if she gets attacked..... Well, actually that`s exactly my point. Of course, because of the past, many Germans feel "solidary" with Israel. However, many of them can`t understand, why their generation, who had nothing to do with the Holocaust, should still have to pay Israel (relatively) big amounts of $$$$ every year. And by the way, I wasn`t joking at all with my holiday-example, believe it or not, but on a flight from Johannesburg to Windhoek (Namibia), that was even the first topic my German neigh- bour brought up..... This is indeed something many Germans feel rather passionately about.... |
