Michael my dear friend ... Neither me, nor any Orthodox Jew (in my opinion) would ever tell his kids that G-d ordered the genocide of an innocent people. Yes, it says in the Torah to annihilate all men, women, children, animals etc ... of the amalekites. I think where we differ is in one word you wrote, `innocent.` If G-d came to you about 100 years ago and told you to go to this little house in Germany, walk into a a quiet peaceful house, pick up a a newborn baby, and shoot it in the head. An innocent little baby, you would probably protest, a baby has a right to live! If 50 years later you would realize that this baby grew up to be Adolf Hitler, and your mudering him could have saved over 10,000,000 people, you surely would have regretted not killing him as a baby, at least most people would I think. When G-d tells the Jewish nation to kill Amalekites, we submit to the fact that we don`t know everything, and there is a greater knowledge from above. Amalek is evil, not innocent |
