Yes, the story is interesting - but I`ve heard many more even more fantastic cabbie tales. Some may be invented but this one had the ring of truth (with perhaps some embelishment thrown in - as cabbies are wont to do). For one, he sounds like a guy who likes the ladies, period. That already makes him an authentic NY cab driver. For another, the comment about israelis that can be hard to converse with is - unfortunately - even more authentic sounding. To be sure, not all israelis are loud-mouth shoot-from-the-hip types but way too many are. Especially many of the ones one finds randomly in New York. Thirdly - the part about netanya beloved by the french is true also. One could, of course, get that information from passengers, but still....

The only part I`d be dubious about is the business about serving on sadat`s ship. Not sure why this did not feel right. maybe the lack of detail. maybe the fact it would make for too nice a fantasy. maybe I`m a skeptic at heart.

Still, a good story.
