Back in the nineties a young lady who I was training as a photographer travelled on several occasions to Eilat with me. Joanne was half English Catholic on her mother`s side and half Lebanese on her father`s side who I believe was Moslem.
Her father had another family in the Lebanon and one of her half brothers was a member of a terrorist organisation and hunted by Israel.
She eventually lived and worked in Eilat for a period before returning to England but the special time for her was on one of our first trips when there was a a celebration for a special anniversary for Eilat. We walked into the fenced off area at the end of what must have been a concert or something where a horde of people were trying to shake a dignitaries hand and somehow Joanne`s hand was shaken. She turned to one of the minders surrounding the man and asked who he was to be told "Ezer Weitzman, President of Israel". She still regards that as possibly the greatest day of her life.
