Mark of Lewiston,
You forget that the `seige` was instituted against the entire Hamas regime because Hamas refused the 3 Intl conditions - recognize Israel, accept previous agreements and stop violence`.
This strategy broke the Hamas government when it launched a coup against the Presidential guard in Gaza and threw Fatah off of buildings.
Now, there is a regime in WB that accepts the 3 conditions (Abbass/Fayyad), negotiations are going on and Hamas is negotiating with Egypt.
Maybe, it is time to let Egypt (not Israel) end the siege.
At present, the truce offered is a turkey but Israel can back off if missiles stop without a truce.
Nevertheless, Israel can encourage Gaza exports through Egypt and gradually turn over food and fuel aid through Egypt and hook Gaza onto the Egyptian electrical system.
Egypt might control heavy weapons for its own sake. The Egyptians already expelled Palestinians from Sinai after the confrontation over the breach. |
