The connection of the Jewish people, not just to Jerusalem, but to the entire land of Israel is not dependent or conditioned upon the existence of a state. We need a state to collect our garbage, manage our resources, defend our lives, and act a mechanism of social cohesion. All important tasks, but let`s not get carried away with it.
The State of Israel is the consequence of the Jewish people`s history in this land, not the cause. So this law is indeed redundant and even slightly insulting. I would suggest that we leave the pure symbolic nonsense (like our imaginary peace friend Abbas) for the Left and deal in tangible issues. |
