| I know Mearsheimer from my days at the University of Chicago in the mid and late 1990`s. I attended numerous lectures and seminars at which he was the instructor. During these occasions, I found him charming and intelligent but also extremely truculent when faced with disagreement from students (particularly in one-on-one interactions outside of class). I never once heard him speak with anything but admiration for the State of Israel or the IDF. I certainly disagree with the conclusions in his recent book, and unfortunately he speaks in a way that can easily be twisted by people with different agendas. However, most respectfully, I believe the people who accuse him of being anti-Semitic are wrong. And the idea that the ADL -- an American organization -- should be staging a running commentary on who speaks at the Hebrew University and why is absurd. |
