| Mary, let me tell you why I`m angry. Gay people are human beings. Moreover, those who live in Jerusalem pay taxes and contribute to the city the same as everyone else. Why should they not be able to hold a peaceful parade down a few streets in the New City? Since when were these streets so holy? The holiness argument is being used to cover bigotry and ignorance. Just look at who it was that petitioned the High Court - two members of the neo-fascist Kahane group. Do you really wish to side with such people? Or would you rather live in a democracy in which the rights of all are protected? If your choice is for the latter than you have to accept that people whose outlook or lifestyle you may not share have the same right to gather in public as anyone else. And they shouldn`t have to shlepp to Ashkelon to do exercise that right. |
