I`ll make two observations about it: 1) The author simplay assumes that the drop-off in violence between 2002 and 2007 is ENTIRELY attributable to Shin Bet.
It`s almost as if it isn`t actually opposing a people, but some terrorist automatron.
Harel, ever considered that 2002 was the worse of the intifada, and last year the intifada had run its course, and - just maybe - the PALESTINIANS themselves had some say in that?
2) The flip-side: do I detect a hint of panic from Harel? That he fears this might be the start of a *trend*, and one that Shin Bet will be powerless to stop?
Coz, after all, a terrorist organization can be infiltrated and stymied, but a sea of disgruntled individuals can`t.
That would, indeed, be a pretty scary prospect i.e. the oppressed don`t ORGANIZE themselves, but simply hand out payback as and when opportunity presents.
You`d have to drive a people to utter dispair to cause them to act that way.
Karma, anyone? |
