| They were "forced to cross the border into Israel after bedouin smugglers fired at them"? Who do they think they are kidding? At least, in this era of GPS (with which every army is equipped) and the exceptional clarity of the Negev border markings, Egypt did not even offer the lame excuse that "they didn`t know they were crossing into Israel". This "test" of the peace agreement is grave indeed. Israel should demand that the US cut all aid and equipment deliveries to Egypt until they take credible steps to prevent a recurrence, including cashiering the Egyptian officers involved at the highest level. Egypt`s claim that they need soldiers in Sinai to "protect" Israel from weapons smugglers is asinine. What Egypt needs to do is stop supplying Gaza with arms from Port Said warehouses and Iranian ships that offload there. Then there wouldn`t be anything in Sinai to smuggle. Egypt is exploiting Olmert`s weakness. Further Proof the 1979 Egyptian "land-for-peace" treaty is worthless. |
