Both men are desperate to do something before they are shelved. Bush as a lame duck is pushing hard on every front to cleanse his muddied image and laminate his legacy - which stands as being the worst and most tarnished any former president may have reached, save only for that of R. Nixon.
Olmert is faced with a devastating corruption and fraud charges that are being readied to be thrown at him soon, and it does not seem that he will survive as the leader of Kadima even if those charges failed to indict him.
Therefore, a call by a drowning man like Olmert trying to employ the services of a lame duck president who is already a flop is futile and made only in desperation.
Pursuing it would be a waste of time and opportunity. So wait until the rogue Bush retires to his Texas farm, and wait for a fresh face - hopefully a clean and serious new Israeli prime minister who would embark with a new U.S. prsident on the road to peace right away. That is if both are really serious about peace.
