The separation barrier is being deliberately routed to accomplish aims that have nothing whatsoever to do with defense. Its zigzag routs is designed to encompass Palestinian land, wells, and resources to serve the settlement enterprise, not to protect Israelis from terrorist penetration.
If the separation barrier is for defense, than there is no excuse for it cutting people off from their land and resources. The struggle of Bil`in is a fantastic example of how Palestinians should stand up for their rights and be heard because law will speak to Israelis and the world more than violence ever will. Ashkenazi is correct in that the route of the fence as a barrier against terrorism shuld be determined solely by the army. The government with its capitulation to the settler enterprise should not be allowed to influence the route of the fence at all. |
