| - in your words, it`s a girlfriend /illegitimate relation it can do without. it`s not only the saudis, but the whole west, notably the US & the EU. that can help cajoling syria away from this octopus. i think this may actually be what syria wants. what would it need iran for? in today`s world to be a close ally of iran only means ostracization by the powers that matter. yes, syria will have to cut the ties to hezbollah & hamas & stop helping them, & a deal w/israel over golan will have to be very convincing indeed. but it`s w/such a deal that a peace w/the pals can really be won, & this is THE historically opportune moment to act in order to achieve it. we couldn`t wish for a better chance than the one we`ve got now. |
