| America, France, and the UK have been putting pressure on Israel on every level to stop the west bank settlement expansion. Israel has ignored them in every case. This is the strategy that Israel has evolved that works best to enable Israel pursue her own ends in spite of international pressure. In a similar fashion, Iran has evolved a strategy that they feel is most effective to allow them to pursue their own ends in spite of international pressure. The strategy is not the same one employed by Israel, but the circumstances are not the same, and it seems to be working well enough for Iran. Israel expects that the world will not take any action against them for their defiance. Iran expects that the world will not take any action beyond ineffective sanctions for their lack of "cooperation". In both cases, the UN and the world lack a credible deterrent. They should save their breath. |
