The continuous expansion of settlements and usurping land that the Israeli government has chosen to pursue is what is making the sand run more quickly through the hourglass. The rapid depletion of Palestinian land together with the need to relieve human suffering make finding a solution even more urgent.
A one state solution will not work until Palestinians and Israelis have first learned to live next to each other in two states side by side. It will not be applicable as long as Iranian-backed Hamas denies Israel’s existence and it will not be feasible unless all Arab and Jewish citizens are ensured full rights and sovereignty. Israelis will never consider it until the elected Palestinian government comes to terms with the right to Jewish presence and right of return is no longer used as a threat to dismantle a Jewish state. Then and only then can we talk about a one state solution. It`s time to pursue a two state solution before both one and two states become unattainable.
