| The israeli cabinet obviously believes that it is not israel`s interest to have either Hamas or Fatah win out over the other. It is equally obvious that Olmert intends to deal with Hamas to get Shalit released prior to leaving office, but this support of Abbas was necessary to keep up the pretense that Abbas is a "partner for peace". I personally suspect that it would be in israel`s best interest to see Hamas win out over Abbas prior to the start of the Obama administration, but it would appear that Olmert and his cabinet still find Abbas to be "useful". |
