| I read Dr. Ginaite-Rubinson`s book through at least 3 times and there is no mention of Kaniukiai/Konuhy or the episode. There is plenty of information about partisans, provisioning and Polish partisans attacking Jewish and Soviet partisans. All the material i`ve seen on Konuchy is standard Polish martyrology and self-contradictory. Given the ever-worsening xenophobia and anti-Semitism in Lithuania which i`ve been witnessing with my own eyes for years, i completely support the call for diplomatic sanctions by Israel at this point. There is no movement on war crimes, on property restitution and sadly on teaching the Holocaust, just lip service at the politically opportune moments. if you tell the simple truth that Lithuanians killed Jews before the Germans got here, you are called a KGB agent, a Russian agent of influence out to corrupt the youth. a strong message needs to be sent, at the very least, that the lithuanian internal narrative is wildly out of line with world thinking. |
