| I`m always hopeful about peace in the Middle East and personally I was right behind Rice when she started this present peace process. But it`s far too little, far too late. The US is about to be thrown out of Iraq by the Iraqi government. In Afghanistan Karzai is `reviewing` the NATO presence, and presumably will eventually also call for a withdrawl and attempt some kind of negotiated settlemnt with the Taleban. In Georgia, the US has encouraged Saakashvili into a suicidally incompetent attack on South Ossetia, continued to prod Putin by sending US warships supposedly to deliver humanitarian aid, and will now be forced to watch helpess as Russia sets Abkhazia and South Ossetia free. If the US can split Kosovo from Serbia, there is, as many of us warned at the time, no justification for stopping lots of similar other breakaways. Incompetence, stupidity, doctrinaire arrogance. That`s what it says on the gravestone of Bush`s foreign policy. |
