| I never believed that two states could be created in this small patch of land, instead of two states, I always knew that it would be one state for two peoples. This is a reality, anyone who has ever been to the west bank can attest that it is almost impossible to carve out two states from that land. What we need now, here in Israel, is a real constitution (we are the only western country WITHOUT a constitution or a bill of rights) that protects minority rights (as Jews eventually will be if we are not already) and that cements the Jewish character of the state but also acknowledges the Muslim character of it as well, as it has been ruled by Muslim for even longer than we Jews ever ruled it in ancient times. We cannot recreate history or make a new civilization without regards to history (as the Germans attempted to do), this land has taken care of MANY people, not just jews and has been cared for by MANY people. We Jews too were once strangers to this land, we too are immigrants. |
