| Yes, Jordan was part of the Palestinian mandate and became independent in the twenties. One might wonder if this new Arab state, out of nowhere, is the Palestine, Arab Palestinians are looking for. That it changed name, should not matter much. However, under Jordan occupation of the Westbank, not many Arabs seemed too happy about the situation. I guess they did not feel likely to become a pawn of a king, but rather have their own clan leaders to be in charge. It will never be perfect, but accepting Jordan as part of historic Palestine (which it is), would be the start of a new beginning. This does not mean, though, that the monarch should step down. I don`t see the point in that. |
