Here`s an amusing story told by former US ambassador James Akins: When Israel overran the Sinai in 1967 they cast their beady eyes to the Egyptian oil rigs that lay offshore. Rabin came to the USA and was most insistant: the "new border" between Israel and Egypt ran up thru the Suez Gulf, and that put those oil rigs under Israeli control. When it was pointed out that the Sinai was occupied - and, therefore, there was no "new border" - ol` Rabin didn`t bat an eyelid: the IDF had occupied those oil platforms in the Six Day War, and so by Washington`s own logic that alone gave Israel control over them. A flat-out lie, and the Americans knew it was a lie. Shout "shame!" at an Israeli politician and they`ll go blank and start looking around for a dictionary... |
