The Ottoman Empire were allies of Kaiser Bill in World War One, which is probably the reason we used "strong arm tactics against the Turks".
We were given the mandate to administer Palestine by the League of Nations after their defeat, and we did this very well, splitting off Mandated Transjordan (always an Arab entity) early on and giving it its independence in 1928.
The wishes of the international community to build a Jewish National Home WITHIN Mandated Palestine (the Jews were NEVER meant to get the whole of it) were met with a more than generous settlement in 1947-48. |
