It amazes me that people say that Israel is the only democracy in the middle east. Several countries have in the middle east have elected governments. The fundamentals of democracy is an independent executive branch, a legislature and a court system that makes sure that abuse is not allowed. In Israel, the Supreme Court makes decisions and the government and the military then decides whether they will abide by the rulings. Israel is a third world country that could make steps for progress but continue to shot hirself in the foot. Several countries in the middle east have governments that can be compared to Israel`s. Not being pro-west doesn`t make them less then a democracy that the political leaders that Israel claims. Oh, to save the usual knee-jerk responses, this is an argument against Israeli policy so I am anti-semetic.
