| For all who are interested in the ethnographic reality of judaism, see "xueta" at wikipedia. For hundreds of years jews in spain and portugal had to manage their identities, being catholic and jewish at the same time, with extreme care, because of the inquisition. right now the marranos or xuetes here in Majorca, at least those who want to return to judaism, find themselves in a dilemma because of rigid (and sometimes inhuman) definitions of whats a Christian and whats a Jew. |
